Having a wild imagination and a love of super heroes always pays off! I got to work with the team over at Warner Bros Interactive to create a set of images for the promotion of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. This is our 3rd project together. It’s always a blast working with them 🙂
This time we went to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama with a 20in tall LEGO Batman made up entirely of LEGO bricks. The idea for these images came from the game trailer, which reveals that Batman will have to up into space to save us from Brainiac — oh no! Thus it seemed appropriate that Batman, being the greatest detective of all time, go through astronaut training.
The challenge with making these images is getting a lifelike personality to figurine with a single expression. Combatting this obstacle requires me to find ways to manipulate and scale the environment to fit a relatively short Batman (with tiny arms.) This usually means playing with perspective using wide-angle lens and me lying on the ground.
