I’m growing to love the idea of growing with the creative community around you. In this particular instance I was hired to update the photography for Quest Crew. If you haven’t heard of them —shame on you! They’re a group of extremely talented dancers that have appeared all over the place: So You Think You Can Dance, LMFAO, Chris Brown, Usher, Snoop Dogg,.. etc. They’re also winners of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Season 3. I’ve known the guys for quite some time now. It’s fun to remember the times when I’d watch them perform at my school, to weekly performances on MTV, to red carpet appearances (back in the day I used to be one of those shutter bugs clicking away at the red carpet), to music videos, and more. I can’t wait to see where these guys go.
Photographing Quest was nothing but ridiculous! The guys have such a fun, chemistry among each other that it’s hard to not get a good shot. The main challenge for this shoot was figuring out how to light a group of 7 guys while giving them space to freely move around. We decided to use a three light setup. The main light being shot through a 12×12 silk and two kickers coming from the rear to slightly edge the guys.
